Hold on, I've got a coupon for that...

Hey Reader,

Yesterday, I worked through a list of chores that required me to stop by ACE Hardware, Valvoline, and Walgreens. At each checkout counter, I whipped out a coupon. But, it wasn't until I was almost home that I had a humbling realization - I've become my mother...

My mother was the Coupon Queen. If we were shopping, we likely had a coupon. If we were dining out, we likely had a coupon. Even on a trip to the beach, my mother had a coupon ready. I remember her handing me a coupon once saying, "Go buy this. Nothing more, nothing less - that's how they get you." She was right.

According to research done by Capital One, 91% of us used a coupon in 2022. You may think, "Whoa! That's a lot of free money companies are leaving on the table," but consider this: 38% of American consumers buy more than they intended when they have a coupon and 67% of American consumers will make an unplanned purchase because of a coupon.

I am not anti-coupon. In fact, I low key love watching Extreme Couponing on TLC and follow way too many coupon-focused TikTok's. For me, it is less about the the amount of stuff they are able to get and more about how they are sticking it to man. Sure Dollar General made 11.82 Billion Dollar profit in 2023, but I just saw a video of a mother walking out with a cart full of groceries for $1.92.

Take that Dollar General!

But, in all seriousness. Coupons are not going away. In fact, by 2030, the coupon industry is expected to be worth 1.6 Trillion Dollars and the industry is moving further away from paper coupons to digital coupons you can use directly via a store's app or website. So, clip (or scan) those coupons and put them to use. Just remember my mother's advice: buy nothing more, buy nothing less.

With Wild Imagination,

-Rayce
